About the journal
The Journal of NGOs provides an outlet for the dynamic outputs of knowledge, practices, and wealth of experince generated by non-state actors in development. The NGO sector is a prolific producer of knowledge and information that is driving development across the world. This sector is associated with strategic thinkers on development matters, contributing manyconcepts upon which decisions that impact on the future of millions in the developing world are based.  Some key functions of NGOs include:

• Technology development, evaluation and adoption.
• Relief and humanitarian assistance to disaster stricken areas.
• Linking producers and consumers of technology.
• Linking key stakeholders in development issues, e.g. government, donors, private investors, farmers etc.

NGOs have tested numerous strategies, gained much experience and learnt many lessons. However, a lot of the knowledge generated and experiences gained within NGOs is not easily accessible to other Development Sector Stakeholders. The Journal of NGOs endeavors to provide a forum through which professionals in effective and active NGOs throughout the world can:

• Document and report on their effective strategies;
• Share their experiences and lessons;
• Present their thoughts on development issues;
• Inform peers, donors and collaborators of their activities.

Submission instructions for authors

• The Journal of NGOs welcomes contributions from development organizations involved in Agriculture, Health, Environment, Education, Food security, Gender issues, etc.   
• Contributions should be on A4 sized document using Arial or Times New Roman Font 12, double spaced. Graphic images can be embedded directly into the document, but should be compressed to 96 dpi (for screen). If components of a manuscript exceed 3 MB, split into two files to be submitted separately. One file should have the word document and other file to contain the graphic images. Further formatting will done after review.
• Every manuscript will be subjected to a review before publication.
• We encourage inclusion of data either in tabular or graph forms, as well as images that reinforce understanding of the concepts or outcomes reported.  Data need not be statistically analyzed, but should be presented in a way to enable comparison to pre- and post- intervention periods, enabling readers to deduce what progress/impact has been achieved.
• Contributors are encouraged to include a GIS graphic (map) showing the areas where the reported activities were implemented. Alternatively, please give administrative data that describes your location. If you have a GPS, you can record your location data in degree format and send it to us; we can make a map of your location.
• Your manuscript should have the following sections:
• Title; Authors names, Institutions, and addresses
• NGO identity:  in up to 30 words describe your institution. e.g. XYZ is an international (or local NGO or CBO) specializing in food security, disaster evacuation, rescue and civic education, operating in 10 districts of Sudan since 2002.
• Abstract: in no more than 300 words describe what was done, where and how it was done, what impact was achieved, current situation and outstanding challenges.
• Program description: this should include description of the problem or the development challenges that your institution is addressing. It should include a history of your or other institutions involvement in similar programs in the same or different area, capturing past activities, achievements, and experiences and explaining why the current interventions have become necessary.
• Activities implemented and outcomes realized. These sections can be split or combined. Focus on impacts achieved and what unique strategies contributed to these achievements.  
• Sustainability, lessons learnt and future outlook: indicate if you have sustainably addressed the challenges you set out to address, the lessons you have learnt and challenges faced in the process of implementation. Of particular interest would be to highlight unexpected challenges that might have arisen that caused you to change or realign your program.  
• Outstanding issues: Identify remaining challenges or gaps, highlighting what kind of resources might be needed to address them.  These can be financial, material or human resources, institutional linkages etc.
• Submit your manuscript as attachment to an email addressed to publications@ngos.elewa.org.
• Your submission will be acknowledged in an email within two days, with a tracking number allocated. If accepted, a manuscript will be published in the next month’s edition of the journal.
• All articles published in The Journal of NGOs will be available in full length, freely (without charge) and openly (to everyone with a web browser) anywhere in the world.
